6 Ways to Go Green in the Office
Yesterday, April 22, was Earth Day. In honor of Earth Day’s mission to activate the environmental movement worldwide, here are 6 ways to go green in the office.
Turn Off Appliances
Upon leaving the office, turn off everything. Turn off all computers, lights, heaters, anything and everything plugged in.
*Tip: Plug all of your electronics into power strips so you can easily turn everything off at the end of the day.
Embrace Natural Lighting
If your office has windows, open up the blinds and let natural light in! Why strain your eyes and waste electricity on lights when you have free, natural light outside!
Lay off the Thermostat
Increasing the office’s thermostat by just 1 degree makes a difference so try it out! For example, instead of 74 degrees, try 75 degrees for a week. Chances are most employees won’t notice and/or they will enjoy a cardigan-free week at the office.
Reduce Paper Usage
Utilize file-sharing websites like DropBox or Google Docs instead of printing and sharing or maintaining paper files. This makes it easier to find what you need when you need it and takes up less space around the office.
Everyone needs to drink water. However, that doesn’t mean you need to drink it from bottled water. Invest in a reusable water bottle and bring your own water filtration pitcher from home or convince your office to purchase it for everyone to use in the communal kitchen.
Good Ol’ Fashion Recycling
Recycle paper, plastic, and if your office is up for it, other less common recyclables such as glass and aluminum.
Earth Day’s campaign this year is to end plastic pollution. Could you imagine a world without plastic pollution? That would be amazing! If everyone did his and her part, the world would be much greener. Make small changes here and there because they truly make a difference. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “be the change you wish to see in the world.”
