Our Favorite New NFL Commercials

Fall is here, and with it comes a new football season. Many of us only watch football during the Super Bowl in February, and even more only watch for the commercials (hand up, no judgment here). While the Super Bowl is a massive time for advertisers, the start of a new NFL season also brings a ton of new marketing pushes from all kinds of companies. Some of which might not be able to afford the steep cost of purchasing a Super Bowl commercial, as a 30-second spot in 2021 went for $6 million.

Whether you’re watching a football game for the gridiron action or the hilarious commercials, we wanted to spotlight some of our favorite new commercials:

Google Shopping – “Sunglasses”

Everyone loves a good commercial that tugs at the heartstrings, which is why we loved this ad from Google. It features a young woman using Google’s shopping service for retro-inspired accessories. After a few searches that highlight Google Shopping’s unique discovery tools, the young woman finds the perfect pair of retro sunglasses to purchase. We then see her gift the shades to her grandmother, with a flashback cut of her grandmother wearing a similar pair of sunglasses. It’s hard not to smile at this powerful spot from Google!

Burger King – “Questions”

TikTok is all the rage these days. This is no more evident than when you see companies like Burger King incorporate songs and dances from TikTok into their advertising campaigns. Burger King’s latest spot, “Questions”, features the king himself answering a series of questions while doing the “Magic Bomb” from TikTok. This spot is sure to get the attention of Gen Z, so well played, Burger King.

AT&T – “All Americans”

AT&T’s spokeswoman character “Lily” stars in another advertisement for the communications company. The spot is mainly advertising AT&T’s iPhone-related deals, but the real star of the show is the numerous cutaways to all the people who “deserve” the deal after a tough year. Poking fun at our quarantine days, we see a cutaway to a work-from-home Mom dealing with her crazy kids on a video conference, a couple working out in a makeshift home gym and those that took up a new hobby to varying results. 

GEICO – “Trick Plays”

In this spot from GEICO, the commercial cleverly blends what looks like a regular football game in with an advertisement. It starts with all the sounds and sights of an actual football game, probably grabbing the attention of anyone watching thinking the commercial break may have ended. Hilarity ensues as we watch a football player wheel a baby stroller onto the field and trick the opposing team by disguising a football as a baby. Complete with a commentary crew, this ad will be sure to make any football fan laugh as they wait for the real game to come back on.
