2021 In Review: The Best Commercials of the Year

Since the 1940’s, commercials have played on our TV screens, and there are some that will stick in our memories forever. As we approach the end of 2021, there are several great commercials to talk about. From raining lemons to Edgar ScissorHands, check out some of 2021’s best commercials below.

Bud Light – “Last Year’s Lemons”

In this commercial for their new Lemonade Seltzer, Bud Light recalled all the sour lemons 2020 gave us on account of the pandemic. Bud Light’s metaphor of raining lemons showed how the pandemic figuratively (and literally) ruined life’s simplest pleasures all the way to its biggest moments. Bud Light came through with this bittersweetly humorous commercial, earning it a spot on our favorite ads of 2021.

Amazon Alexa – “Alexa’s Body

The advertisement industry knows that celebrities sell, especially when it is someone as highly popular and attractive as Michael B. Jordan. By comparing Alexa’s newest design to the beautiful being that is Michael B. Jordan, this Amazon commercial is one for the books.

Toyota, “Jessica Long’s Story”

In connecting their brand with messages of hope and strength, Toyota highlighted the story of 13-time Paralympic gold medalist, Jessica Long, and her mother. Telling a story of love and determination, this sentimental commercial shows Jessica swimming through memories of her childhood leading up to her career as an athlete. Toyota crafted a real tear-jerker with this one, so it had to be spotlighted as one of our favorite commercials of 2021.

Cheetos – “It Wasn’t Me”

Two things are for certain: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are America’s favorite couple, and Shaggy’s song “It Wasn’t Me” is still a banger. Put both the celebrity couple and the reggae sensation in one commercial, and you will have an instant hit on your hands. Cheetos did just that in one of the most catchy and memorable commercials of 2021.

Cadillac – “Hands Free”

Everyone loves a good dose of nostalgia, and this Cadillac commercial sent viewers down memory lane with a twist on Tim Burton’s 1990 film Edward ScissorHands. This charming commercial features popular actor Timothee Chalamet as Edgar ScissorHands, son of Edward, with Winona Ryder playing her original role of Kim Boggs. The commercial successfully reprises the magical feel of the original cult classic film, and it will go down as one of the best commercials of 2021.
